The department of gynecology of Beijing Shijitan Hospital (The Ninth Clinical Medical College of Perking University), featured by its great expertise in Gynecological Oncology, is a key department in the hospital with a well-equipped laboratory and an outstanding research ability. It also plays an important role in medical education, offering courses for five-year and seven-year medical students in Peking University Health Science Center and providing training programs for a master’s degree in obstetrics and gynecology. In addition, the department has its own laboratory, cell culturing room and 35 beds available.

The department has always attached great importance to scientific research. In the past five years, many projects have been accomplished, such as “The Treatment of Ovarian Cancer—Mechanism and Reversion of Chemotherapy-resistant and Interventional Therapy”, supported by the Scientific Research Foundation of Capital Medical Development; “Screening and Combined Detecting Multiple Tumor Markers and Early Diagnosis of Ovarian Cancer”, supported by Scientific and Technological Development Foundation of Ministry of Railways. Currently, we are undertaking a branch project of a “State 863 Project” on “Biological Markers on Ovarian Cancer”. Grants Awarded: with a fund of RMB120 millions.

Moreover, during this period, more than 70 articles have been published, of which 2 were awarded the second prize, 3 the third and 1 the fourth for Scientific and Technological Advances at provincial and ministerial levels; another 2 the first and 2 the second at bureau level.
 

In the department, there are 2 professors, 4 associate professors, 4 members with a master’s degree and 4 with a Bachelor’s degree. The two professors, both with the PhD degree, are leading authorities in gynecological cancer field and supervisors of postgraduates. Currently there are 9 postgraduates in this department, including 7 full-time and 2 part-time. The department has been entitled the “Advanced Group” and many teachers have been awarded with “Excellent Teacher” by Peking University.

The Department of Gynecology can carry out all kinds of surgeries, diagnoses and treatments regulated by key disciplines in level three of first-class hospitals, such as radical surgery of vulvar cancer and cervical cancer, cytoreductive surgery, para-aortic and pelvic lymphadenoectomy, extra-fascial and extraperitoneal hysterectomy, vaginal hysterectomy, vaginoplasty. The standardized diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic malignant tumors has been in line with the advanced level at home and abroad, especially of ovarian malignant tumors, cervical cancer, endometrial carcinoma and trophoblastic tumors. The department has made progress in the treatment of endometriosis and all kinds of benign tumors of uterus and ovary, and is advancing towards minimally invasive surgery, such as laparoscopic hysterectomy, surgeries of uterine adnexa, hydrotubation, hysteroscopy surgery and hysterectomy at normal position.

The outpatient clinics have specialty in endocrinology, hormone replacement therapy, B type of ultrasound and vaginal cytological examination. In addition to outpatient clinics of gynecology, obstetrics, family planning and expert outpatient services, the department also offers special clinics on gynecologic tumors, infertility, and endocrinology. The clinics’ cell room can perform tests and examination of cervical cells, endometrial cells, ascites and pelvic fluids. The clinics can also handle treatments by colposcope, TCT and conization of cervix, and drug abortion plus induced abortion, once awarded with “Beijing advanced group and excellent individual of family planning without accident in ten thousand patients”.
